Many processes are becoming digital. Understanding how they work can help travellers use them correctly and easily.
Overview of the two systems
1. Contactless cards and tickets
Most commonly used in passes such as Südtirol Passes and Mobilcards.
How to use them:
- Hold the card up to the contactless symbol on the validating machine;
- A green OK and an audible signal confirm the validation.
2. QR-code tickets
Among the various tickets you can get a single ticket or a Südtirol Guest Pass (either in paper form or soon in digital form) with a special black and white square, now known as a QR code.
Things to consider during validation:
- These tickets are read using an optical sensor, i.e. a beam of light at the bottom of the validating machine.
- Optimum reading distance: approx. 10 cm
- A red dot on the QR code indicates correct positioning of the ticket
- Successful validation: green OK on screen plus audible signal
Regional buses: here the validating machines are located close to the driver and ticket validation takes place at the top right near the optical reader.
Tip: Turn the ticket so that the QR code is facing the sensor.
