This summer, bus and train services throughout the Pusteria/Pustertal valley will be significantly increased again. And they’re simply too good to miss!
Trains running every 30 minutes along the Pusteria/Pustertal valley – non-stop and all summer for the very first time: From 18 June to 4 September 2022, there will be services connecting Fortezza/Franzensfeste and San Candido/Innichen every half hour, seven days a week – including Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. And with plenty of good reason, too: Up to 7,000 passengers use the Pusteria/Pustertal valley trains on a typical Sunday in August. Extra trains create not just significantly more room for passengers, they also add transporting capacity for bicycles – and they are an ideal way to meet high mobility demands while at the same time reducing road traffic. In previous years, only a few additional trains were in operation on weekends throughout August.
Perfect timing: On Thursday 16 June, the all-new Brunico/Bruneck Mobility Centre will open its doors. Complete with a bus station and plenty of parking for bicycles and cars, this brand-new, state-of-the-art transport hub right next to the train station will make it increasingly convenient and easy for passengers to choose public transport.
Buses: good to know
For a number of popular and much-visited excursion spots in Alta Pusteria/Hochpustertal, we strongly recommend using public transport. Here’s what to keep in mind when travelling by bus:
From 17 June, buses marked 422 will serve two destinations, alternating between Falzes di Sopra/Oberpfalzen and Lago d’Issengo/Issinger Weiher.
Until October, buses marked 446 (Dobbiaco/Toblach – San Candido/Innichen – Sesto/Sexten – Passo Monte Croce/Kreuzbergpass) will no longer serve Val Fiscalina/Fischleintal, where a separate service (440) with different fares will be in place instead. Südtirol Pass in all its variants can be used at the usual conditions.
From 18 June to 4 September, buses marked 446 (La Valle/Wengen – San Martin/St. Martin – Longiarù/Campill – Antermoia/Untermoj) will offer a new direct route to Piccolino/Pikolein and Passo Erbe/Würzjoch every hour.
There are two ways to get to Lake Braies/Prags: using the public-transport service 442 from Dobbiaco/Toblach bus station or Villabassa/Niederdorf, or by taking the private 439 shuttle service from Monguelfo/Welsberg train station. From 10 July to 10 September, online seat reservations are required for all passengers, i.e. on both services. Please note that separate fares apply and that Mobilcards and GuestCards are not valid during this period. On the 442 service, however, all types of Südtirol Pass can be used at the usual price.
Prato Piazza/Plätzwiese can be reached using the public-transport service 443 from Dobbiaco/Toblach bus station or Monguelfo/Welsberg train station. On this service, all types of Südtirol Pass are valid and no prior reservation is required.
For a toll-free and convenient way to get to Rifugio Auronzo/Auronzohütte (Three Peaks), visitors are advised to take the 444 service form Dobbiaco/Toblach. Please note that online seat reservations and online payment are required for all passengers until 9 October. Separate fares apply. While Mobilcards and GuestCards are not valid during this period, all types of Südtirol Pass can be used at the usual price.
