From 16 February 2025 to March 2026, the Vinschgau/Venosta valley railway will be subject to partial closures planned by the infrastructure manager STA – Südtiroler Transportstrukturen AG/Strutture Trasporto Alto Adige SpA, affecting the Laas/Lasa-Mals/Malles line.
From October 2025, the section between Meran/Merano and Laas/Lasa will also be closed for the modernisation of the entire railway line and the introduction of new technologies. The closure will also allow the entire line between Meran/Merano and Mals/Malles to become electrified.
During the closure, extensive technical and safety work will be carried out to dismantle the old signalling systems and to install and test the new overhead lines and the European Train Control System (ETCS) signalling system.
There are also plans for approval and testing of the new electric trains and the converted diesel trains.
Full operation will resume in spring 2026.
Replacement bus service
A replacement bus service will be organised during the closure periods.
